Abstrak

This study aims to find out how Project Based Learning (PjBL) or project-based learning is applied in teaching dokkai (Japanese reading comprehension) for Intermediate learners of  Japanese as Foreign Language. The target of teaching dokkai at the intermediate level is so that students can independently understand information from Japanese language discourse/writing equivalent to JLPT N3 and N2. However, this target does not seem to motivate students to increase reading activities outside of lectures. Coupled with the weakness of textbooks that do not display actual readings, students cannot take advantage of information from reading results for their Japanese language skill activities. To solve this problem, PjBL has been implemented where students read the latest news articles in Japanese from the NHK News Web Easy website, then students make a video explaining the Japanese news article in Indonesian, and the video is uploaded to the Youtube channel so that it can be watched by the general public. Indonesian people who don't know Japanese but want to know the latest news about Japan. The teacher's role is only as a facilitator, namely giving examples of videos that must be made by students, choosing the source of news articles, providing explanations for Japanese vocabulary or expressions that cannot be understood before the students make the videos, and finally uploading videos of all students' works in one playlist on the channel. Youtube. From the results of the questionnaire to students, it is known that by learning dokkai through PjBL, the motivation of students to carry out Japanese reading activities outside of lectures increases, because the results of reading activities are not only useful for themselves but for others. To apply this PjBL in teaching intermediate level dokkai, careful preparation is needed so that teachers can function optimally as facilitators in lectures so that learning activities become more student-centered.
